Q: What is Apptivation?
A: Apptivation is a comprehensive application that provides back-to-base activation for your software products. Apptivation produces product keys for your software products and activates these keys when required. It provides protection for your software product from unauthorized use.
Q: How is my software protected?
A: The software product you are selling contains function calls to our Apptivation DLL (which you also must distribute).
The Apptivation API validates whether your customer can use your software according to your license agreement. Since the validation requires back-to-base activation, it ensures that the software is used as intended. It makes it very diffucult for other parties to copy and use your software without your knowledge.
Q: Can it be broken?
A: Many other software protection products will not discuss this topic. However, we believe you should know everything there is to know so you can be prepared and adjust accordingly.
Any software protection system can be broken or cracked.
However, we aim to protect your software product the best way we know how by using military and industry standard cryptographic functions. We also give you some control in what is embedded in the product keys.
Also too, because it is back-to-base activation, it does make it harder for hackers to come up with an Activation ID for the given product key.
Your software product and our Apptivation API cannot be protected forever, but it can be protected long enough until further enhancements are made. These enhancement will always continue to ensure that out software meets your security and protection needs. For us its vital, as we also use this product to protect itself.

Q: What license models does Apptivation support?
A: - single free trial licence - Licence to trial the software for x amount of days on one machine only. In this mode, the licence cannot be activated because its not purchased. - single purchased licence - Licence to trial the software for x amount of days on one machine only. In this mode, the licence be activated. - enterprise free trial licence - Licence to trial the software for x amount of days on x machines. In this mode, the licence cannot be activated because its not purchased. - enterprise purchased licence. - Licence to trial the software for x amount of days on x machines. In this mode, the licence can be activated.
Q: How long does it take to integrate the Apptivation API into my software product?
A: It depends on the experience of your software developers. On average, using our examples as a guide, you could have it implemented in under a day.
Q: How do my customers get the Apptivation licence?
A: Getting the licece is a two step process. You issue the customer with a product key that is specific to your product. The customer software generates an Installation ID using this product key and machine specific information. You then generate an Activation ID for that customer using the given Installation ID. This process can be automated via web services or other means. It is a very similar process to how Microsoft activates your copy of Microsoft Windows via their Activation process.
