Environment
As a software development company, we have built software specifically designed for the Bin/Waste Hiring industry. The software is extremely comprehensive, reliable and easy to use.
We believe it gives them an edge on the competitors not using Waste Pro as it simplifies business processes and eliminates tedious manual paper work.
The software is installed across 7 workstations that are connected to Windows Server 2003. Some workstations use terminal server while others are running Microsoft Windows XP.

Licensing Problem
It was vital that this software is running only on the workstations it is licensed to. Also, we did not want this software to be used by competitors without our knowledge. As a result, we needed to protect our Waste Pro product.

Solution
We chose to use Apptivation as our license management tool because it easily integrated with our software, provided back-to-base activation, and was easy to use.
The effort required to integrate the Apptivation API in our product was minimal, as it only required a few lines of code (which was already documented for us in the help file provided). With the help of the documentation, we were able to achieve a licensing system that worked efficiently and securely for us.
Once our customer received and installed Waste Pro, they entered a product key that we provided. From this point, the activation process was a one-step simple process that worked seamlessly.
Since we started deploying Waste Pro, we never had an issue with the software activation module. We have reports to inform us, which customers have this product activated and how many workstations it's installed on for correct license use.

Environment
Our business has developed software for the retail businesses that sell electronic goods. It handles quoting, invoicing, purchasing as well has managing customers and suppliers. It contains comprehensive reporting and user management and security.
The software is designed to run on any Microsoft Windows system and is a client-server application.

Licensing Problem
It has been used for the last 7 years with many enhancements improving the product to a level that makes it very reliable and efficient to use. We allow customers to trial our product before they buy it but we relied on customers honouring the trial period.

For our business model, we needed something more robust than this and something that would allow us to quantify how many customers bought the product after using the demo version.
On top of this, we wanted out customers to use a genuine version of our product knowing that they are receiving the best service available.

Solution
Apptivation was the solution we required.
After installing the software, using it and applying the Apptivation API to our software, we were able to secure our product within hours.

It meant our customers could trial the product free for 30 days. This gives the customer piece of mind about using the software without having to buy it. After this point, we required them to purchase the product and hence activate it.

The Microsoft® style of back-to-base activation worked really well for us as it ensures the product is activated securely and correctly.
It is a one step process where the customer gives us an installation ID and we in turn give them an Activation ID specific to our product and their computer.
